Set up garmlink in Perplexity
Set up garmlink in
Perplexity connects to garmlink as a custom remote connector over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), on Pro, Max and Enterprise plans. Once it's linked, Perplexity answers from your real, synced Garmin history — no copy-pasting, no screenshots.
Before you start
You need a garmlink account with your Garmin connected (do that on the Connection screen), and Perplexity on a Pro, Max or Enterprise plan — custom connectors aren't available on the free tier.
1
Connect your Garmin account
On the Connection screen, enter your Garmin Connect credentials, complete the verification code if Garmin asks for one, and wait for the status to turn Connected. garmlink starts syncing your activities, sleep, HRV and training metrics right away.
2
Open Perplexity's connector settings
In Perplexity, go to Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector. Custom connectors for remote MCP servers arrived in March 2026, on the Pro, Max and Enterprise plans.
3
Paste the garmlink URL
Enter the remote MCP server URL exactly. It must use HTTPS and end in
/mcp:https://api.garmlink.ai/mcpThen fill in the rest of the form:
- Authentication — Perplexity offers OAuth, API Key or None — choose OAuth.
- Client ID and Client Secret — leave both empty. garmlink supports dynamic client registration and publishes its OAuth metadata at
/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server, so Perplexity discovers the endpoints and the scopes on its own.
4
Choose who the connector is for
Perplexity asks for the connector's scope:
- Individual — private to your own account.
- Organization — shared with your workspace. An admin can authenticate once for everyone, or require each member to authenticate individually.
5
Click the connector card to activate it
Adding the connector does not switch it on. Click its card in the connector list: that starts the OAuth flow, sends you to garmlink to sign in, and brings up the Authorize access screen. Approve it and the connector goes live, with garmlink's tools available.
6
Ask your first question
In a new thread, make sure the garmlink connector is enabled, then try:
- “How did I sleep this week?”
- “Summarize my last five runs.”
- “Is my training load trending up or down this month?”
Troubleshooting
- The connector is added but nothing happens. It only becomes active once you click its card and complete the garmlink sign-in — until then Perplexity never calls it.
- The connector won't add. The URL must use HTTPS and end in
/mcp. Client ID and Client Secret must stay empty. - No “Add custom connector” button. Custom connectors need Pro, Max or Enterprise — the free tier can't add them.
- Data looks empty or stale. Check where the sync stands on the Connection screen.
